The judges evaluated Burning as "the highest recognition of the director's artistic achievements in the world, and a work that can represent the present level of Korean film."

"I also saw the maturity of an aesthetic and ethical eye that dissected the Korean society that I had never seen before had the potential to communicate with the universal intellectuals of the world's citizens."

'Burning' is a work based on Japanese novel Murakami Haruki's short novel 'Burning a Barn', which depicts three men and women with a mysterious aspect. He was also invited to the Cannes Film Festival competition this year and received favorable reviews.
